There’s nothing sweeter than a parent proudly sharing their child’s milestones. When Nate Kloiber, owner of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in Fort Lauderdale, told us how his daughter’s Girl Scout troop recently helped their community, we wanted to spread the news.
Every spring, the troop completes a service project to give back to their community. This year, they decided to support the Greater Fort Lauderdale Diaper Bank, a charity that provides diapers to people who can’t afford them.
The girls held a diaper drive to collect donations from the community and other troops in the area, and pooled money from their cookie sales. Nate’s franchise also donated to help the worthy cause.
“As the donations came in, it became clear that it would take more than a car-load to deliver the diapers,” Nate says. “We quickly stepped in to help the troop out.”
Nate recruited his team members to transport the donations from his house to the event site. Once everything was delivered, the Girl Scouts stayed to help hand out supplies to the people who had signed up to receive support.
“As the month went on, the girls got more and more excited to see the donations piling up,” Nate says. “But I think the most impactful part of the experience for them was meeting the people they were helping.”
It’s a beautiful thing to see today’s youth get excited about giving back. Want more heart-warming junk stories like this? Click here to see how our franchise partners get involved in their communities.
