A Yard Sale With Heart

Never underestimate the power of a yard sale!

On Saturday, May 23, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Toronto raised $21,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) at its 11th annual Yard Sale for the Cure event. The day’s proceeds smashed the previous record for a single-site sale.

Bargain hunters came out in droves to support this tremendous cause, enjoying the beautiful spring day as they perused the different items up for sale. With every dollar collected being donated to CBCF, shoppers were bolstered by the knowledge that there weren’t just adding to their own collections, they were supporting very important medical research.

Thousands of gently-used items were sold, including furniture, decor, sporting goods, books, DVDs, and one of a kind finds.

“This is an incredibly worthy cause and it’s heartening to see our people get behind it with such zeal every year,” said David St. James, VP of Marketing and Commercial Sales for 1-800-GOT-JUNK?. “While the weather cooperated, it is the spirit, energy, and commitment of the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Toronto team and our volunteers that helped deliver another great event.”

Yard Sale for the Cure was founded by cancer survivor Rachel Smith, whose founding vision was the hope that “our daughters never hear the words ‘You have breast cancer.’” 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Toronto first became involved with the event in 2006, and since that time has helped raise over $271,000 for the CBCF.

The event would not be possible without the generous volunteers from the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? family, and the dedicated CBCF staff. We extend our biggest thanks to everyone who came out to support the day!
