Earth Day Event Round-Up

Happy Earth Day! Today more than one billion people in 192 countries are participating in Earth Day, an annual tradition to help make our world a greener, healthier place to live.

In our small part of the world, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise partners staged Earth Day events, including electronic waste pick-ups. Here’s a snapshot of two weekend success stories.

Each year our Quebec franchise partners team up with Réno-Dépôt for La Collecte Verte, an event that invites the public to dispose of their unwanted electronic devices for free. Sunday they had spectacular success, collecting 26 tonnes from 800 visitors in Montreal and 22 tonnes from 500 visitors in Quebec City. In addition, the crew handed out 300 White Spruce seedlings to visitors in an effort to offset the carbon footprint created by cars and trucks driving up to the event.

In Kelowna, BC franchise partner Yoree Grozenok rolls out his annual Earth Day event and each year he attracts more people. This weekend the crew collected 2 tonnes of electronic waste, shredded 3 tonnes of paper, and donated 20 boxes of food bank donations, including $300 in cash for the Kelowna food bank. We challenge you to start something new for the environment today. We all know it takes just 30 days to cultivate a habit or stick to a change in routine. Why not put that to the test today with a commitment to help improve our Mother Earth!
