The Business “Instinct” of Junk Removal

November 14, 2012

Ever wonder how successful entrepreneurs arrive at the right business decision? Are decisions made from experience, advice from colleagues and mentors, research and analysis, or intuition? My guess is most seasoned entrepreneurs find the right balance of each. Recently, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Founder and CEO Brian Scudamore was asked to participate in a CMA Magazine article studying the relevance of intuition in business today. It covers many entrepreneurs who do the proverbial “gut-check” before signing off on a major decision. But you might be surprised to know that some of the most critical systems business owners utilize involve an element of intuition as well.

In their article, The Art in the Science of Business, Craig Roberts, CMA and Stephen W. Bauld interview three accomplished entrepreneurs in unrelated fields. In speaking with Scudamore, they uncover the CEO’s “Two-in-the-Box” style of leadership, in which Scudamore, as CEO, sees possibility in a vision for the company’s future; while COO, Erik Church is able to look at the hard numbers and execute the vision accordingly. It’s the perfect synergy between intuition, or gut-instinct, and a well-informed and proven business approach.
