‘Trashion Show’ walks the runway on America Recycles Day

November 8, 2012

One of the entries from the 2011 Trashy Fashion Show

Calling all Americans who missed Earth Day with 1-800-GOT-JUNK? back in April: you have another opportunity to ‘be more green’ this November 15, also known as America Recycles Day. Communities all around the country are participating in their own way, whether it’s with e-waste collections, recycling drives, outreach programs or neighborhood cleanups. Google your city or county with the words ‘America Recycles Day’ and see what’s going on in your area!

One particular event in Illinois hopes to inspire people to rethink waste and put emphasis on reusing. The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County is hosting its annual Trashy Fashion Show, which encourages environment-minded local designers of all ages to create and showcase outfits made from ‘found’ and repurposed materials.

There were some fantastic entries last year that included newspapers, candy wrappers, Coke cans, plastic bags and more. Click the link above to view, but here are a few more notable entries!
