Soles4Souls Shoe Drives Underway

We’ve all heard how people love to buy shoes. Well, now there’s an opportunity for people throughout North America to feel better about their addiction. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? and NAPO, the National Association of Professional Organizers are both partners in a national program called Soles4Souls and have teamed up to drive local shoe collections for charity that are unprecedented in size.

NAPO has challenged its members across the country to collect as many shoes as possible. The winner will receive a trip to Haiti to deliver shoes to people in need.  It’s a challenge that local professional organizers everywhere are motivated to win. Here at 1-800-GOT-JUNK?  we are also looking into the possibility of working with Soles4Souls to offer a similar challenge to our franchise partners across the country.

Soles4Souls is a national charity with a simple mission to collect shoes and distribute them to people in need. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 13 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently donating one pair every 7 seconds.) The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries,
including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. Soles4Souls is a 501(c)(3) recognized by the IRS and donating parties are eligible for tax advantages.

Soles4Souls offers a simple way to help reduce the strain on our environment. Last year alone, Americans discarded more than 300 million pairs of shoes. When these shoes break down in our landfills, the toxic glue that holds the shoes together can leak into our water supply and atmosphere.

The current goal is to collect 12 Million pairs of shoes by June 30th, 2012. NAPO members and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise partners across the country are thrilled to be involved in a charity that is a natural fit with their business models and puts smiles on the faces of people around the world. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchises in Chicago, New Jersey, Denver, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Asheville, Nashville, and Cleveland have participated so far.
