Last Friday, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? played host to man’s best friend. International Take Your Dog to Work Day meant that we opened up our doors and invited canines to sit at our ankles while we worked. The benefit wasn’t just boosted morale, but boosted awareness for our local animal shelter.

First celebrated in 1999, Pet Sitters International’s Take Your Dog To Work Day® was created to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs. This annual event asks pet lovers to celebrate the human-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging their employers to support TYDTWDay by opening their workplace to employees’ four-legged friends on this one special day. Nelly: The guard of all important meetings

Corporate employees were encouraged to bring in their furry friends and have them roam the office as everyone worked. The result was hilarious. Throughout the day you could find people ‘awwwing’, laughing, petting and chasing canines.

There also may or may not have been a small power struggle here and there (read: dominant Chihuahua bites Labrador).

No doubt, the best part of the day was when our local BC SPCA came into the office and hosted Huddle (our company-wide daily meeting) with three dogs who were looking for homes. Coco, a 9 year old Chocolate Lab/Pit Bull mix was so gentle and calm.  Carry, a 3 year old Jack Russell hyped up the crowd while Toby, the fluffy 2 year old Shi-Tzu stole our hearts.

This was the first time 1-800-GOT-JUNK? has officially taken part in International Take Your Dog to Work Day but it definitely won’t be the last. Take a look at their website and next year, I encourage you to take the reins. Encourage your office to participate in this fun day, you’ll be glad you did!
