The holidays can be a stressful time for so many people. Finding the right gift to buy, planning a perfect turkey dinner, juggling family commitments…and on and on. They all take their toll. That is why we would like to send out a special thank-you to all of you who help out with charitable activities throughout the holidays. This December, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? participated in its third annual Second Chance Toys drive. During my part in spreading word about this charity for kids, I was amazed by the number of similar charitable acts companies and individuals are undertaking at this same hectic time.
You know, it’s during these busy holidays that the special opportunities exist. Helping out those less fortunate is really a gift. And this year Second Chance Toys, a charity based in the Northeast US, certainly delivered. As many as 80 toy drives cranked up throughout New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Chicago. Over 10,000 toys made their way to disadvantaged children, putting smiles on their faces. WOW! In some areas, children themselves collected toys at their school and donated them to children’s day centers and pediatric centers. In New Jersey, Investors Savings Bank holds a large drive every year to collect gently-used toys in their branches.
Next to the heartwarming act of sharing a smile with a child, we at 1-800-GOT-JUNK? are proud of the fact that fewer toys are ending up in the landfill.
Every year I hear about people who wish they had time to donate to a cause, participate in a charity. Sometimes a little goes a long way. In the past four years Second
Chance Toys has handed out 60,000 toys…all one at a time. An extra can to the food bank or re-gifting a special present you don’t need to a charitable cause (yes, that’s acceptable!) can help out immensely.
Giving can be down all year round!
Happy New Year everyone!
