David Sollecito and Dan Stanek from Pinellas County, Florida!
How long have you been working with 1-800-GOT-JUNK?
David: About 3 Years
Dan: 4 months
What did you do before you found Junk?
David: Worked at Macy’s / Federated Stores’ call center
Dan: I was the head chef at an Italian restaurant
What do you love about being a Truck Team Member?
David: It’s amazing how grateful some customers can be for the simple work we do for them (plus, the sweeeeeet and weird stuff you find).
Dan: I was surprised at how much we give to charities and needy folks. We work, get paid, and lend a hand. Also, the awesome and weird stuff we find.
What is the most challenging thing about being a Truck Team Member?
David: Bearing the Florida heat in these dang polo shirts!
Dan: Putting up with the incessant outrageous banter of my truck team member!
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever hauled away?
David: 200 Coke bottles used as spittoons and packed in boxes in a 2nd floor bedroom; second place is the hoarder who had bags of marijuana which he had forgotten about down deep in all the junk.
Dan: A dog head cookie jar
What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever had to do?
David: Dumpster dive at an Asian fast food restaurant in July.
Dan: Dumpster dive through rotten meat and other food …. for 3 tires.
Did you do it with a smile?
David: Why would I?
Dan: No…it was more of a gagging, retching look…
Do you have any other funny memories or stories that you can share?
David: After breaking up a box spring with a red crowbar, my old partner asked if the box spring was ‘bleeding’ because of some red paint streaks. I couldn’t stop laughing for some reason.
Dan: Something funny happens almost every day. Today, we were stopping by to do a pick up at the local Salvation Army and there was a minivan with a forklift tire on its front wheel parked in a customer parking spot. It was just weird!
