It’s our blog’s favorite day of the week, and we sure do have a treat for you!
This week’s Truck Team Tuesday features Adam Pereira, a Truck Team Member out of our Ottawa franchise. Adam is a junk hauler by day and musician by night. The talented singer/songwriter has even made a few videos (which we will link to at the bottom of this post).
How long have you been working with 1-800-GOT-JUNK?
I have been working for 1-800-GOT-JUNK? since May 1st, 2009.
What did you do before you found Junk?
I worked at a UPS store, making photo copies.
What do you love about being a Truck Team Member?
I can’t speak on what every 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise is like, but in Ottawa, Luc and Pierrette Raymond (the franchise owners) have really done a great job of hiring people who are on the same level. What I mean by this all my co-workers and managers are my friends, we hang out outside of work, we help each other out, and you can really depend on the people you work with.
My favorite part of being a truck team member is that while I am away from my family and home (which are in Waterdown, Ontario) I feel like part of a family at junk. It sounds corny, but I’m not getting paid to say it. I love the people I work with! And it’s difficult to find a job you enjoy with great co-workers.
What is the most challenging thing about being a Truck Team Member?
The most challenging thing about being a truck team member is keeping my uniform clean (joke). But seriously , there are not many big challenges about being a truck team member. We encounter small challenges daily such as the most efficient ways to do a job, the best way to organize our day etc. Again, you could put me with anyone of our truck team members (including my manager, John, or the head honcho, Luc) and we do get everything accomplished.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever hauled away?
I haven’t found anything too weird…well, maybe an entire collection of Playboy magazines (from the first one ever created to 2010).
What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever had to do?
The grossest things I have ever had to take away were probably some couches that had been living in a basement (getting urinated on by cats).
Did you do it with a smile?
I can’t recall the look on my face but I am sure I had a smile on my face when I wrote up the bill and headed to the next job.
What other memories can you share?
One funny memory was when a rival junk company owner’s wife booked us to come and haul away junk from their backyard. When we showed up, we started talking to some guys who were doing other work around the yard, they told us that their boss (the owner of the house) was the owner of a rival company! Sure enough, the husband showed up and (without going into too much detail) he asked us to leave. But we did offer him a great deal and good service.
Do you have a motto or a philosophy on life?
Life is too short, don’t wait till tomorrow.
