Interesting Junk Benefits The Boys and Girls Club

July 26, 2010

Everyone loves to hear about business helping out in the community, going that extra mile for charity.  So it was gratifying to learn that our customers in the Greater Sacramento area are actually driving the latest charitable act for the California franchise. It all started when the Operations Manager, Phil Nance, secured a recurring segment on the popular morning show, Good Day Sacramento.

The segment started as an interesting showcase of the different weird junk they’ve come across throughout the years.  Funny thing is – the weird junk shown on TV generated a following. Viewers of the show were actually interested in purchasing the items!

Phil and his franchise were never interested in turning a profit with this segment, but people wanted to buy the interesting junk. The solution was obvious.

Phil and the rest of the Greater Sacramento franchise appeared on their next segment of Good Day Sacramento. They showcased their weird junk, as always but then they announced that every item would be available for purchase through craigslist and 100% of the profit would go straight to The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento.  This organization provides youth with a safe environment to participate in positive, fun activities, while their staff and volunteers dedicate themselves to help young people to set and reach their goals.

I know one thing for sure: That’s the last time someone refers to all of our interesting finds as useless junk!

You can watch Sunday’s segment online! Check it out here.

Our organization Beyond Our Bubble recently put on a project called the Teen Challenge to help a family in need. The six teen on the team worked solid two weeks doing everything they could to help the family. At the end of the project, we had accumulated a huge pile of junk at the side of the house that we were going to have to pay for at the dump. A quick call to 1-800 got junk though and our problem was solved!
The guys were great! They came out on the last day of our project and helped us clear out the side yard in an hour flat. They even helped remove a refrigerator that probably hasn’t been moved since the house was built. These guys were awesome! We couldn’t have done it without them.

Thank you 1-800 got junk! you truly helped make a difference for a family in need.
