Truck Team Tuesday – Steve Ovsak from Florida SW

If the best part about 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is the people, what would our blog be without a few guest appearances from various 1-800-GOT-JUNK? employees?

It is without further ado that I announce the inaugural weekly spotlight on a truck team member! This brave former marine, who answers to the name Steve, jumped at the chance to be the first person to be interviewed and featured on the Everybody’s Got Junk blog’s Truck Team Tuesday.  As more Tuesdays go by, I hope you enjoy learning about the people behind the wheels of our blue trucks.

So, Steve Ovsak of the Florida SW franchise, how long have you been working with 1-800-GOT-JUNK?

Since the spring of 2006, 4 years!

What did you do before you found Junk?

Everything! I worked in the Marine Corps, Navy Seabees, Army National Guard.  I worked at a Butcher shop, a Furniture Store, at various construction jobs and even as a Commercial Fisherman in Alaska.

What do you love about being a Truck Team Member?

The customers! Some are just really great.  I also love donating things to people who really need them.

What is the most challenging thing about being a Truck Team Member?

Trying to make customers laugh who are having a bad day. But then again, it’s rarely challenging and mostly fun.

Describe your favourite day you’ve had working with 1-800-GOT-JUNK?

There’s so many of them I can’t.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever hauled away?

Too many items to name.  Every job is like a treasure hunt!  Haha.  I’ve actually found and given Rolex watches, expensive rings, and earrings back to owners who didn’t even know they had them!

What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever had to do?

I’d say crawling through some dumpsters behind a restaurant is pretty gross.

Did you do it with a smile?

Of course! I was actually cracking jokes to onlookers.
