Spring into Summer Clean!
June 23, 2010
What are the 6 top reasons to de-clutter the home and garden during the summer? How about you procrastinated in January, February, March, April, May and June?
Well, now that the summer solstice has officially been checked, the holidays are about to begin, and the weather is fair, let’s get to it! Here’s your simple, action-oriented, no-fail, fun, home organization and clean-up PLAN:
- Engage your family, and friends if so inclined, for a summer clean-up day
- Purchase: gloves, boxes, garbage bags, tarps, and 5 pieces of poster board, markers, cleaning supplies
- Purchase: food and drink for a post-clean-up BBQ
- On the day, assign each person a room(s) and/or section of garden to be SPA (single person accountable) of
- Create staging areas on tarps or blankets in the front yard, identified with poster board signage laid out on the ground, labelled: toss, recycle, donate, yard sale, keep (optional titles)
- Have each person work on their section, removing items for staging, cleaning their area fully, and finally, returning items back into the space as necessary
- Items to be donated or recycled are transferred to an appointed vehicle for delivery
- Items to be tossed are set aside for garbage day or a 1-800-GOT-JUNK? pick-up (note recycle and donation items may be included in pick-up to free your time)
- Items for a yard sale are boxed and placed in an appointed area with the date of the yard sale written (reminder!)
- Celebrate your clean, clutter-free home!
If these motivating words have not inspired you, consider that in a couple of short months we’ll be welcoming back September. You’ll spend more time indoors and the first thing you’ll be reacquainted with? The junk you neglected back in June!
