Company Fitness Boot Camp Builds Culture

May 19, 2010

Is it wrong to admit the most fun I’ve had at work recently was at our first company Fitness Boot Camp? Errr…I think not. You see, I’m one of those people who sees the value in elevating employees from the average Joe to the average Evangelist. Any Google search of the definition of company culture will tell you culture is the shared values and practices of employees. And quite simply, when you add fun into the mix people tend to want more of the same. Yes, we ran our tails off, sweated, cursed, became temporarily lame, and then… even began looking forward to session two…all together!

I’ve studied company cultures for a while now, and what I really love about them is their potential to bring out the best in employees, professionally as well as personally. When you consider the amount of hours in a day, a year, a life that we spend away from home, family and friends, it quickly becomes evident how necessary it is that our work becomes a home away from home. Happy, fulfilled people exhibit those same personal qualities on the job.

This is the first time 1-800-GOT-JUNK? has participated in fitness boot camp. Like many companies these days, we run a lean operation. We work hard. We look for efficiencies. But finding time for a boot camp workout is a smart move. In addition to the team building wins of getting fit together, consider the significant mental benefits of fitness:  we sleep better; cope with stress better; enjoy improved moods; reduce depression and anxiety; improve our mental clarity; and for those of us who tend toward ADHD, we’re less distracted also!

As we’re just getting started, we’d love to hear your feedback about your company fitness boot camp. And if you’re looking for more information about corporate boot camps, read how Fitness Boot Camp Saves Money and Increases Productivity.
